FOOD ECOSYSTEMS

We grow more than food. We cultivate power, access, and healing. Our food ecosystem work addresses systemic food insecurity by supporting community-owned agriculture and cultural foodways.

VEGGI FARMERS COOPERATIVE

VEGGI (Village de l’Est Green Growers Initiative) is a community member–owned and operated farming cooperative based in New Orleans East, a program of Sông Community Development Corporation. Rooted in cultural tradition and community resilience, VEGGI grows heirloom produce native to both Louisiana and the Vietnamese diaspora using no-spray, eco-friendly methods. By promoting cooperative economics and local food access, VEGGI provides dignified jobs, supplemental income, and fresh, high-quality produce to local markets, restaurants, and families.

Emergency Food and Shelter Program

Farmer Training (BFRDP)

In partnership with Recirculating Farms, SPROUT NOLA, and the USDA, our work in the Beginner Farmer Rancher Development Program supports anyone interested in professional agriculture and participating in our local food system. Our BFRDP involvement makes it possible for us to host free workshops that cover topics such as legal liability, cottage food law, and innovative agriculture, such as aquaponics and hydroponics.
